The world as we used to know has evolved. With the introduction of Social Media, methods of learning, living, and communication are no longer what they used to be.

Things are done differently now because of the obvious technological advancement and the introduction of social media.

The world we know today is a global village where information from far and near can be exchanged with a click of a button. Because the world has been compressed into a single electronic room, information is now highly accessible to everybody including secondary school students in Nigeria.

Social media is a medium of communication that enables people all over the world to not only share their feelings and ideas but also exchange meaningful information irrespective of the time and location. Social media which is a quick and effective means of communication is an upgrade from letters.

Students use social media to keep in touch with friends, both old and new. Which is a good thing when done in moderation. When used in moderation, social media allows students to “play” when they have to because all work and no play is an unhealthy way to approach life.

Though many people argue that social media is a waste of valuable time, we can not pretend that it has not made information accessible to students.

For example, there are Facebook groups dedicated to finding alternative and more effective ways to study. There are also blog posts that have helped students in getting their assignments done. What this means is that, while social media can influence the students negatively when they use it without proper guidance from parents and teachers, it can also be good for them when used the right way.
